About this play
“Science fiction is here, Jonathan. Every day is science fiction. We buy these things that already know our moods and what we want for lunch even though we don’t know ourselves.”
Five seconds into the future. It's the age of artificial intelligence, and eighty-five-year-old Marjorie - a jumble of disparate, fading memories - has a handsome new companion who's programmed to feed the story of her life back to her. What will we remember, and what will we forget, given the chance? In this richly spare, wondrous new play, Jordan Harrison explores the mysteries of human identity and the limits - if any - of what technology can replace.
2015 Pulitzer Prize-finalist Marjorie Prime opened off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons on December 14, 2016 and was originally directed by Anne Kauffman. A film adaptation by Michael Almereyda debuted at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, to critical acclaim.
Marjorie Prime is written by award-winning American playwright Jordan Harrison (Orange Is The New Black).
